Learning Support

The Learning Support Team assists students experiencing difficulties in the classroom. A number of experienced, specialised teachers work in collaboration with classroom teachers and school based Speech and Occupational Therapists, to provide students with modified and differentiated programs.

We now implement the Macquarie University early literacy intervention programs. MiniLit Sage is for students in Years 1 and 2 and MacqLit is for students in Years 3 and 4 who are experiencing reading difficulties. These programs are evidence-based and focus on the ‘Five Keys to Reading’ - Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension.

In addition to the Macquarie University intervention programs, we have introduced the PreLit program in Early Entry and the InitiaLit program in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. The PreLit program is a systematic, skills-based program that lays a sound foundation for children to learn to read. The InitiaLit program is an evidence-based whole class literacy program, providing all children with the essential core knowledge and strong foundations to become successful readers and writers.

To complement the Macquarie University programs, we chose the Fountas & Pinnell guided readers and assessment system (K - 8). We have one guided reading program and assessment system across the School to inform our teaching practice and to guide our students towards a love of books and reading.

Through early intervention and support, we ensure that all students who attend Learning Support are known, valued and cared for.

NCCD
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a data collection that counts the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ owing to disability and the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.

NCCD Fact Sheet for Parents, Guardians and Carers

Further information regarding the NCCD can be provided by the Learning Support Team at Mosman Church of England Preparatory School.
